Associate Principal's Message

Meet "Scott" Futrell

Twain Associate Principal

Dear Twain Students and Families,

I am excited to begin the 2025–26 school year as Twain’s Associate Principal. This will be my 19th year at Twain and my third year serving in an administrative role. I truly feel fortunate to work alongside our always inspiring students, families, and communities, and I look forward to celebrating our students’ successes throughout the year.

A native San Diegan, I graduated from UCSD with a B.A. in U.S. History, with a minor in Political Science and a specialization in Latin American Studies. I went on to earn my teaching credential and M.S.Ed. from National University. After 22 wonderful years in the classroom—a role I truly loved—I transitioned into administration as Twain’s Dean of Students. I later served at Hoover High School as Interim Associate Principal for nearly a year. These experiences deepened my passion for teaching and learning in ways I never anticipated.

Today, I remain dedicated to supporting high-quality classroom instruction while making student safety, health, and wellness my highest priorities. I am a warm demander who advocates for social justice and equity for all students, staff, and families. At Twain, I am committed to advancing Ethnic Studies, restorative practices, and standards-based learning, with equity at the center of our work, so that every student is prepared for success beyond high school.
