Associate Principal's Message

Meet Scott Futrell

Twain Associate Principal

I am excited, honored and humbled to begin the 23/24 school year as Twain’s associate principal. This will be my 16th year at Twain and 25th in San Diego Unified School District. I feel like the luckiest man in the world to get to serve such a diverse and inspiring student body and can’t wait to begin helping students, families and staff to achieve our collective graduation goals!!

A native San Diegan, I graduated from UCSD with a BA in US History with a minor in Political Science and a specialization in Latin American Studies. I received my teaching credential and M.S.Ed from National University. After 22 years in the classroom (I really loved teaching) I ventured into the world of administration as Twain’s Dean of Students. I went on to serve Hoover High School as their Interim Associate Principal for a semester. These experiences strengthened my passion for teaching in ways I did not anticipate. I am more inspired than ever to support teaching and learning in the classroom while placing the highest priority on safety, health and wellness. I am a warm demander for social justice and equity for our students, staff and families. To this end, I am committed to carrying forward the work of the Ethnic Studies and restorative practices at all of our Twain sites. Further, I look forward to continuing our work around standards based learning so that all of our students are prepared for success beyond high school.
