Meet Jesery Mendez!

Teacher at Twain Crawford

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jesery Mendez and at Twain-Crawford, I teach Biology, Chemistry, Career Life Management and Business 100.

A little bit about myself, in 2019, I received my Bachelor of Science in General Biology and a Minor in Education Studies from the University of California, San Diego. The following year, 2020, I also received my Single Subject Preliminary Credential in Life Science and a Masters in Education from the University of California, San Diego. I immigrated to the United States from Mexico at the age of three, grew up in a low income family, and was the first in my family to attend college. As an educator, I am passionate about inspiring students, building their confidence, and encouraging them to pursue excellence in all they do.

My desire to teach and help transform the lives of students who come from marginalized communities emerged during my second year at UCSD. When I enrolled at UCSD, I had every intention of becoming a doctor. However, after counseling first-generation female college students at the OASIS program, I had a change of heart. I realized my skill set and passions proved a greater fit in the educational realm, and I wanted to pour into others in the same way that my teachers had poured into me.

Growing up undocumented really shaped my educational experience. It's my driving ambition to encourage minorities like myself to eagerly pursue higher education.

I want to inspire students to cultivate a love for education and learning. I want to inspire them to roll up their sleeves and work with the same level of determination I applied to my educational journey. Just as my teachers inspired me to forge a path of promise for myself, so do I look forward to possibly having the opportunity to do the same for Twain students. If you are interested in learning more about me or my classroom beliefs, feel free to check out my teaching portfolio.
